About these spelling bingo cards

Spelling bingo is an easy way to practice a word list several times without it feeling like a drill. Paste this week's spelling words and print. Every card has the same words in a different order, so students keep scanning and reading the words carefully.

To focus on spelling rather than recognition, try the spell-it variation: call a word, and students must write it on a whiteboard before covering it. The starting list includes tricky words many students misspell, like because, friend and thought.

How to make bingo cards

  1. 1

Type or paste your words, one per line. Use vocabulary, sight words, math facts or anything your class is learning.

  2. 2

Pick a grid size and how many cards you need. Every card is shuffled differently, so no two students share a board.

  3. 3

Print the cards, or choose Save as PDF in the print window. The caller sheet prints on the last page.

Ideas for spelling bingo

  • Spell it first

Students spell the called word aloud or on a whiteboard before covering the square.

  • Definition clues

Give a clue instead of the word, then ask a student to spell the answer.

  • Pattern rounds

Group words by pattern (-ight, -ould) and call one pattern per round.

  • Friday review

Play before the weekly spelling test as a final review.
